The St Peters Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of Jordie Hines, Jada Hines, and Jenny Ayres. At approximately 6:00pm, police were notified of a house on fire in the 1800 block of Elm Tree Street near Jungerman Road. Firefighters were notified there may be people inside the residence. Firefighters entered the residence where they located Jenny Ayers (age 37) and her two children, Jordie Hines (age 10) and Jada Hines (age 5). Jenny was pronounced dead at the scene. The two children were rushed to the hospital where they were pronounced dead.
The children had been located in the bathroom submerged in a tub of water, deceased. Autopsy results showed the children drowned prior to the fire being set. It is believed Jenny Ayers drowned her children before intentionally setting fire to her home.
