The Alton Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of Romell Jones. At around 5:15pm, police officers responded to a community recreation center on Acorn Street in the Alton Acres housing project for a report of shots fired. There they discovered Romell Jones (age 11) who had been struck in the chest by a gunshot round. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation revealed Ta’Mon Ford (age 18) had been in a vehicle with several other people when he went to the area over a social media dispute he had against some other individuals. Romell was not involved in that dispute.
As a result of this investigation, Ta’Mon Ford was charged with two counts of 1st Degree Murder. His bail was set at no bond.
