The Madison Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of Kenneth Deal. At around 1:53pm, police officers were on routine patrol in the area of 3rd Street and Washington Avenue when they heard gunshots. Witnesses were able to point out the fleeing suspect vehicle to police. As police officers pursued the suspect vehicle, shots were fired from inside the vehicle at a police officer. The officer was not hit. Kenneth Neal (age 43) was lying in the roadway with gunshot wounds. He was transported to the hospital where he died from his injuries.
As a result of this investigation, Terrence Lee (age 30) and Turhan Robinson (age 37) were charged with 1st Degree Murder, Attempted Murder (for shooting at the police officer), and Armed Robbery. They both had bond set at $1,000,000.
