Suspect: Jarad L. Daughtrey
The Swansea Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of David Daughtrey. At around 1:25pm, police officers were called to a residence in the 200 block of Mimosa Avenue for a well-being check. A friend had called the police, concerned when they had not heard from the man who lived there. When officers arrived on scene, they found David Daughtrey (age 61) deceased inside the residence.
David Daughtrey shared the residence with his son, Jarad Daughtrey (age 36). According to David’s autopsy results, it appears a physical altercation occurred between Jarad and David inside their home. The altercation directly contributed to David's death.
Investigators believed Jarad was driving his father’s vehicle. Early the next morning, a police officer located the vehicle in the parking lot of the Trailway Motel in Fairview Heights. Jarad was located inside one of the hotel rooms dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
