The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of Heather Beckley-Lewis. Around 8:38am, deputies responded to the area of Butler Valley Drive and Antonia Valley Court, near Imperial, for a report of an unresponsive woman lying in the woods. When deputies arrived, they located the body of Heather Beckley-Lewis (age 34). She had suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead on scene. It was later determined she had been struck multiple times in the head with a hammer.
As a result of this investigation, Brian Smith (age 32) was charged with Murder 2nd Degree. His bond was set at $1,000,000.
