The Illinois State Police and East St. Louis Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of Daniel Mathis. At approximately 3:00am, police officers responded to the 700 block of Veronica for a report of shots fired and a man down. There they found Daniel Mathis (age 28) who had been shot. He was pronounced dead on scene.
