The Illinois State Police and East St. Louis Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of Melvin Gregory. At approximately 7:40pm, police officers responded to the 7700 block of State Route 163 in unincorporated St. Clair County near Centreville for a report of a body found. There they found Melvin Gregory (age 38) deceased from a stab wound.
As a result of this investigation, the following criminal charges were issued in connection with Melvin’s death:
Billie Jo Carson (age 32) - 1st Degree Murder - Bond $1,000,000
Christopher Mays (age 37) - 1st Degree Murder - Bond $1,000,000
Dylan Baldwin (age 26) - 1st Degree Murder - Bond $1,000,000
Donna Mrkacek (age 57) - Concealment of Homicidal Death and Obstructing Justice - Bond $300,000
