The Richmond Heights Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of Jack Pierson. On 08/08/2009 at approximately 3:18am, a police officer on patrol saw dense smoke and smelled an odor of smoke in the area of Laclede Station Road and Boland Place. The source of the fire was located at a residence in the 1100 block of Surrey Hills Drive. When firefighters entered the residence, they located Jack Pierson (age 81) inside the living room. They removed Jack from the residence and he was pronounced dead on scene. It was determined Jack had been stabbed multiple times before the residence was set on fire.
As a result of this investigation, Jack’s roommate, John Kuchler (age 42), was located in Tulsa, Oklahoma and charged with Murder 1st Degree, Arson 2nd Degree, Armed Criminal Action, and Stealing a Motor Vehicle. He was arrested on a no-bond warrant.
