The Madison Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of DeLarrian Davis. At approximately 12:14am, police officers responded to the area of 6th Street and McCambridge Ave for numerous 911 calls reporting shots fired. When officers arrived in the area, they were directed to the 1800 block of Skeen Ave. Near that area they located DeLarrian Davis (age 12) inside a residence where he had been shot. He was pronounced dead on scene.
During the course of this investigation, it was determined the suspects had been shooting at each other. Marcus Powell was attempting to shoot Kevin Campbell (DeLarrian Davis’ stepfather), when a stray bullet went into the residence and struck DeLarrian in the head.
As a result of this investigation, the following charges were issued:
Marcus Powell (age 27) - 1st Degree Murder, Attempted 1st Degree Murder, and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm/Occupied Vehicle. No-bond warrant.
Kevin Campbell (age 27) - Armed Violence, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm/Occupied Vehicle, and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon/Vehicle/Previous Conviction. Bond $250,000.
Cortez Davis (age 25) - Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm. Bond $150,000.
Kevin Campbell’s and Cortez Davis’ charges stemmed from actions prior to DeLarrian’s death.
