The Wright City Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of Jonathan Reid. A police officer was on routine patrol in Ruge Park when he heard gunshots in then area of the 100 block of South Elm Street. As the officer arrived on the area, he was approached by a male who told the officer there was a subject shot inside a residence. Jonathan Reid (age 22) and a 59 year-old woman had both been shot inside the residence. Jonathan was airlifted to a local hospital where he died. The woman was transported to the hospital and treated for her injury.
As a result of this investigation, Leon Steward (age 24) was charged with the following:
Murder 2nd Degree (1 count)
Endangering Welfare of a Child 1st Degree (4 counts)
Assault 2nd Degree (1 count)
Armed Criminal Action (6 counts)
His bond was set at $500,000.
