The Maplewood Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of John Chanitz. At approximately 6:12am, police officers responded to a residence in the 7500 block of Folk Avenue for a report of a man on the front porch slumped over. There officers located John Chanitz (age 54) on the porch. He had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene.
