The Alton Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of Scott Garner, Jr. At approximately 11:34pm, police officers responded to the 2500 block of Amelia Street for a report of a person shot. There they located Scott Garner, Jr (age 17) and another man who had both been shot. Garner, Jr was transported to the hospital where he died from his injuries.
As a result of this investigation, Nathaniel Fleming (age 19), Reginald Stegall (age 19), and Bradley Everage (age 18) were each charged with 1st Degree Murder and Aggravated Battery with a Firearm. Their bond was each set at $750,000.
