The Cahokia Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of Rodney Sawyer. At approximately 10:58pm, police officers responded to the 300 block of Range Lane for a report of a deceased person. There they located Rodney Sawyer (age 30) inside his residence. He was dead from a gunshot wound.

As a result of this investigation, Troy Radford (age 28) was charged with 1st Degree Murder. His bond was set at $1,000,000.
