The Granite City Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of Carol Newby. At approximately 5:29pm, police officers responded to a residence in the 2100 block of Delmar Avenue for a report of female without signs of life. There officers located Carol Newby (age 60) deceased inside her residence.
As a result of this investigation, an acquaintance of Carol’s, Brian Gary (age 41), was charged with 1st Degree Murder. His bond was set at $500,000.
