The Bel-Nor Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of Subrenia Smith. At approximately 1:15am, police officers responded to a residence in the 3000 block of Nordic Drive for a report of burglary in progress. There they located Subrenia Smith (age 37) who had been fatally shot and was pronounced dead on scene. Subrenia’s husband, John Smith, who was the person that called police, was shot in the arm and leg. John survived his gunshot wounds. Subrenia’s two children were in the house but slept through the shootings and were uninjured.
As a result of this investigation, it was determined John Smith shot and killed his wife, Subrenia. He then staged a burglary inside the residence to include him being shot in the arm and the leg before calling police.
The following criminal charges were issued in this case:
John Smith Jr (age 35) - Arrested on a no-bond warrant
Murder 1st Degree

Bryan Smith (age 23) - Who is not related to John Smith - Arrested on a $20,000 warrant
