The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of Anton Rinderer. On 05/03/2001 at approximately 5:30pm, the United States Coast Guard received notification from a tow boat that a body was floating in the Mississippi River. After the body was removed from the water, it was discovered the victim’s hands and feet were bound and apparent puncture wounds were present in the chest area. The victim’s head area also showed signs of trauma. The victim was determined to be Anton Rinderer (age 51) who lived in the St. Louis area.
As a result of this investigation, Timothy Rogers (age 39) and Joseph Shahan (age 37) were both charged with Murder 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action. Their bond was set at $250,000 each.
