The St. Charles City Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the deaths of Roger Speaks and William Hamilton. At approximately 11:30pm, police officers responded to a residence in the 3500 block of Ehlmann Road in unincorporated St. Charles County for a well-being check. There they located Roger Speaks (age 51) and his business associate, William Hamilton (age 56) inside the residence. Both men had been shot and were pronounced dead on scene.
With the assistance of this investigation that was continued by the St. Charles City Police Department, the son of Roger Speaks, Nathan Speaks (age 20 at the time of the murders), was arrested six years later in October 2006 in connection with the deaths. He was charged with two counts Murder 1st Degree, Burglary, Tampering with a Motor Vehicle, and Armed Criminal Action. His bond was set at $1,000,000.
