The Brentwood Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating a reported kidnapping. At approximately 12:25am, police officers responded to a pay phone in the 2300 block of South Hanley Road for a report of a possible assault and abduction. When police arrived, they located a pay telephone at the end of the parking lot. The telephone receiver was off the hook and lying on the ground. The reporting party said her 21 year-old daughter was abducted by two men while the daughter was talking on the phone to her boyfriend.
Detectives made contact with the girl’s 25 year-old boyfriend. He said he was on the telephone with his girlfriend. During the conversation, she said two men were approaching her. He then heard her scream and the phone dropped. He called his girlfriend’s mother who then called the police.
The following day the girl returned home to her mother’s residence. She had not been kidnapped and was not injured. She said when she was on the telephone with her boyfriend, he did not want to talk to her. That upset her so she told her boyfriend two men were trying to kidnap her. She dropped the phone then drove to a hotel for the night. She said she faked her kidnapping in order to scare her boyfriend. She did not expect her boyfriend to call her mother and did not expect the police to become involved.
