The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of Crystal Adamse. Deputies responded to a wooded area in the 4500 block of Scarecrow Lane near Washington, MO for a report of two decomposing bodies found in the woods. When deputies arrived, they located the bodies of Crystal Adamse (age 15) and Christopher Lingenfelter (age 19). Crystal and Christopher lived together in a residence near where the bodies had been found. They had both been reported missing on 07/09/1996 after last being seen 06/23/1996.

As a result of this investigation, it was determined Christopher Lingenfelter killed Crystal Adamse and then killed himself.
