The East St. Louis Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of Annette Lewis. At approximately 7:59am, police officers responded to the 700 block of South 29th at Piggott Avenue, near East St. Louis, for a report of a dead body. When they arrived, they located Annette Lewis (age 39) lying face down in a dirt alleyway. She had been shot and was pronounced dead on scene.
