The Maplewood Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of Sherrie Vorwold (age 18). At approximately 5:14am, police officers responded to the area of Greenwood Boulevard and Sutton Boulevard for a report of sick person in or around a 1970 Plymouth Duster. There they located Sherrie Vorwold inside the vehicle. It was determined she had died from being struck in the head and she had also been stabbed in the throat. She was pronounced dead on scene.

As a result of this investigation, Sherrie’s former co-worker (age 32) was arrested and charged with Murder 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action in Sherrie’s death. However, in 1994 the court ruled the suspect to be not guilty by reason of insanity.
