Suspect: David W. Mathis

The Granite City Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the deaths of David Mathis (age 39) and Donald Juergensen (age 61). At approximately 11:05am, police officers responded to a residence in the 2200 block of Washington Avenue for a report of two deaths. There they located the bodies of Donald Juergensen and David Mathis inside Donald’s residence. They had both been shot and were pronounced dead on scene.

After a thorough investigation, it was determined Donald Jergensen’s neighbor, David Mathis, shot Donald in the head and killed him. David then shot and killed himself.
