The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the deaths of David Lieneke (age 18) and Dawn Lieneke (age 13). On the evening of 07/04/1989, deputies responded to a residence in the 3400 block of Velda Street in Belleville for a report of a double homicide. There they located David Lieneke and his sister, Dawn Lieneke, deceased inside the residence. They had both been stabbed multiple times.
As a result of this investigation, Anthony Mitchell (age 19) was charged with 2 counts of 1st Degree Murder. His bond was set at $500,000.
