The St, John Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of Michael Place (age 32). At approximately 11:45pm, a police officer on routine patrol saw a white Grand Prix with the interior lights on sitting in the St. John Baptist Church parking lot (8650 Hume Avenue). When the officer went to investigate the vehicle, he located Michael Place lying in the parking lot next to the vehicle. Michael had been shot and was pronounced dead on scene.
As a result of this investigation, Michael’s ex-wife’s husband, William Baugh (age 30), was charged with Murder 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action in Michael’s death. William was arrested on a no-bond warrant.
