The Cahokia Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of Johnnie King (age 35). At approximately 10:30am, police officers responded to the embankment on Interstate 255 just south of the Doris Avenue overpass for a report of a found body. There they located the body of Johnnie King. He had been stabbed multiple times and was pronounced dead on scene.

As a result of this investigation, Melvin Love (age 25) was charged with 1st Degree Murder and Concealment of a Homicidal Death. His bond was set at $200,000.
