Victim: Walter William Eberhardt
The Hillsdale Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of Walter Eberhardt (age 35). At approximately 9:03pm, police officers responded to the 2100 block of Kienlen Avenue for a report of car bombing. There officers located a 1975 Dodge Dart heavily damaged from an explosion that originated inside the vehicle. Walter Eberhardt was located deceased inside the vehicle from the explosion. A passenger in the car was injured but survived.
After a thorough investigation, it was determined Walter Eberhardt was transporting the bomb when it accidentally detonated. It is believed Walter was holding the bomb in his hands at the time of detonation.
