The Cahokia Heights Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the shooting of an 11-year-old boy. At approximately 3:30pm, officers responded to the 1600 block of Andrews Drive for a report of a shooting. There they located the 11-year-old boy with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a St. Louis area hospital in critical condition.
The investigation into this shooting revealed a subject walking in the area got into a verbal argument with other subjects in the area. Several gunshots were then fired from the subjects, striking the 11-year-old boy who was leaving his friend’s house on his bicycle. There are several persons of interest in this case with one suspect having been arrested.
As a result of this investigation, the following criminal charges were issued against Jeremiah Johnson (age 23):
Aggravated Battery
Mob Action
Obstructing Justice
A second suspect was taken into custody on unrelated charges. Criminal charges against the second suspect and other persons of interest are pending review by the State’s Attorney’s Office.
