The North County Police Cooperative requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the deaths of Tashonda Nesbitt and Vernon Stewart Jr. At around 1:00am, police officers responded to a home in the 2100 block of Penfield Avenue in Vinita Park for a report of a shooting. Vernon Stewart (age 45) and Tashonda Nesbitt (age 35) were both found deceased inside the home from gunshot wounds.
As a result of this investigation, police believe Vernon shot Tashonda in a domestic quarrel. Vernon then threatened a third person who was on the scene and that person shot and killed Vernon. The third person did cooperate with law enforcement.
