The Granite City Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of Guy Abramson. Police officers responded to the 1900 block of Edison Avenue for a report of a deceased male inside a vacant apartment. There they located the body of Guy Abramson (age 46). He had been stabbed multiple times.

As a result of this investigation, Guy’s friend, James Batey (age 30), was charged with 1st Degree Murder. His bond was set at $1,000,000.
