The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of John Redmond III. Deputies responded to the 3000 block of Trendley Avenue in East St. Louis for a report of a taxicab that crashed into a ditch. There they located John Redmond III (age 46) in the driver’s seat of the taxicab where he had been shot. He was transported to the hospital where he later died.
As a result of this investigation Jasmon Stallings (age 19) and Dejwane Smith (age 16 - charged as an adult) were both charged with 1st Degree Murder and Armed Robbery. Their bond was set at $500,000 each.
