The Florissant Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of Christine Smetzer. At approximately 2:54pm, police officers responded to McCluer North High School (705 Waterford Drive) for a report of a sick person. When police arrived, they located Christine Smetzer (age 15) inside a bathroom at the school where paramedics were performing life-saving measures on her. She was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. During the investigation, it was learned Christine had been raped and drowned in the toilet.

As a result of this investigation, Michael Taylor (age 15 - charged as an adult) was charged with Murder 1st Degree and Forcible Rape. He was arrested on a no-bond warrant.
