Suspects: Daniel Anthony Basile & Richard Anthony DeCaro

The St. Charles City Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of Elizabeth DeCaro (age 28). At approximately 8:00pm, police officers responded to a residence on Hidden Meadow Court for a report of an assault. There they located Elizabeth DeCaro inside the residence where she had been shot. She was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

As a result of this investigation, the following criminal charges were issued in Elizabeth’s death:

• Richard DeCaro (age 30 - Elizabeth’s husband) - Murder 1st Degree and Stealing by Deceit - No-bond warrant

• Daniel Basile (age 25) - Murder 1st Degree and Stealing by Deceit - $1,000,000 bond

They were later both charged in Federal Court with Murder-for-Hire, Conspiracy to Commit Murder-for-Hire, and Mail Fraud.
