The Normandy Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of Emil Mathias Sr (age 23). At approximately 10:31pm, police officers responded to a residence in the 4600 block of San Diego Avenue for a report of a shooting. There they located Emil Mathias Sr lying outside the patio door. He had been shot and was pronounced dead on scene.

As a result of this investigation, Gregory Cain (age 28) and Larry Jackson (age 24) were each charged with Capital Murder. They were both arrested on no-bond warrants.
