Classification: Involuntary Manslaughter

The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad for the shooting death of Cole Wierciszewski. At approximately 5:14pm, police officers responded to Memorial Hospital in Belleville for a report of a male with a gunshot wound. It was determined Cole Weirciszewski (age 19) had been shot at his residence in the 100 block of Paulette Drive, Belleville. He was transported by a friend to the hospital where he died.

After an extensive investigation, it was revealed that the shooting was unintentional. Jewell Smith was charged with Involuntary Manslaughter in Cole’s death. His bond was set at $100,000.
