The St. Ann Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the disappearance and subsequent murder of Angie Housman (age 9).
On 11/18/1993 at approximately 7:10pm, police officers were notified Angie Housman had not returned home from school and was missing. After Angie could not be located, the Major Case Squad was activated on 11/22/1993 to assist in searching for her.
On 11/27/1993 at approximately 10:30am, a hunter located Angie’s body in the Busch Wildlife Area in St. Charles County. Angie’s body was tied to a tree. She had been sexually assaulted, and her eyes and mouth were covered with duct tape. Authorities believe she died from hypothermia.
As investigators continued to work on this case, 26 years later in 2019, DNA evidence linked Earl Cox (age 36 at the time of Angie’s murder) to this case. He was charged with Murder 1st Degree, Kidnapping, Sexual Abuse 1st Degree-Weapon, and Sodomy-Victim Less than 14 years old. His bond was set at $500,000.
At the time of his arrest, he had been in federal custody since 2003 for his role in an international child pornography ring. Prior to that, he was convicted in the early 1980s of sexually abusing four little girls.
