The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of Shirley Crook (age 46). At approximately 5:15pm, deputies responded to a residence in the 800 block of Pine Ridge Drive in Fenton for a report of a missing person.
That same day, Shirley’s body was found floating in the Meramec River in unincorporated West St. Louis County. She had been tied up and died from drowning.
As a result of this investigation, Christopher Simmons (age 17 - charged as an adult) and Charles Benjamin (age 15 - charged as an adult) were both charged with Murder 1st Degree, Burglary 1st Degree, Kidnapping, and Stealing. They were both arrested on no-bond warrants.
