The Pine Lawn Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of Era Abbott (age 83). At approximately 11:51am, police officers responded to a residence in the 6200 block of Westerhoff Avenue for a well-being check after neighbors were unable to get Era to answer her door. There police officers located Era Abbott inside the residence. She had been beaten in the face and strangled and was pronounced dead on scene.
As a result of this investigation, Keith Forrest (age 19) was charged with Capital Murder and Burglary 1st Degree. He was arrested on a no-bond warrant.
