The Overland Police Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in investigating the death of Gersain Rugerio-Rodriguez (age 26). At approximately 11:34pm, police officers responded to the 9400 block of Baltimore Avenue for a report of a shooting. There officers located Gersain who had been shot and was pronounced dead on scene.
As a result of this investigation, Gavon Simmons (age 26) was charged with Murder 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action. His bond was set at $1,000,000.
