The Lincoln County Sheriff's Department requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad after deputies were called to the Elsberry Motel and Lodge. Deputies found the body of Megan Clark in one of their motel rooms where she had been shot several times. Authorities do not believe this was a random crime. A body, later identified as vehicle owner Jonathan Krocak, was found inside. His body was identified through DNA. The cause of the fire is still being investigated. The Major Case Squad was activated at the request of the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department after the discovery of the victim shot at the County Line Quick Shop at 2913 Camp Jackson Road. During the preliminary investigation, a suspect vehicle, a Silver Pontiac, was seen leaving the area of the shooting. The vehicle has an Illinois temporary tag attached and may have a dent on the front passenger door.

The remains were publicly identified on 03-26-2018 as Sattish Catching. Sattish’s death is being investigated as a homicide. The Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance of the Major Case Squad in the investigation of a missing female, Denita Hedden. Hedden was last seen on 01/25/2018 in Royal Lakes, IL. Evidence suggested foul play was involved in Hedden’s disappearance. MCS investigators spent 12 days performing interviews, and organizing search operations for Hedden that included over 22,400 acres of rural terrain and 70 miles of roadway. Hedden was 37 years old at the time of her disappearance, and was described as a white female, 5’0” tall and she weighs approximately 110 lbs.
